Juglans regia, also known as walnut, is a large deciduous tree that can easily reach 20 m in height and 15 m in width. This lovely solitary tree is well-producing, with a broad, loose and airy crown. The leaves are unevenly pinnate and shiny green, the fruits are edible and packed in a sturdy green husk. It prefers a sunny position and a permeable, calcareous to neutral soil. Underplanting is almost never successful because of the shade and dryness and the substances that the root secretes.
