Prunus laurocerasus "rotundifolia", ook wel in de volksmond "paplaurier" genoemd is een grote wintergroene sierstruik met een compacte dichtvertakte vorm. Hij bloeit in mei en juni met kleine witte, geurende bloempjes en heeft korte, glanzende, breed ovale, leerachtige, middengroene bladeren. Hij prefereert een standplaats in de zon of halfschaduw, doet het goed in vrijwel iedere grondsoort, is redelijk winterhard en produceert in de herfst niet-eetbare vruchtjes. Prunus laurocerasus "rotundifolia" is goed zeewind tolerant en kan ook wat luchtverontreiniging aan, is bruikbaar als formele haag en lokt vlinders en bijen.
