Magnolia x 'Genie' is een kruising van magnolia soulangeana en magnolia liliiflora. Deze magnollia heeft een compacte en dicht vertakte groeiwijze. Met zijn donkerrode tot paarse bloemen blinkt hij absoluut uit in het voorjaar. Wat ook opmerkelijk is is dat de kleur vrij stabiel is. Hij bleekt niet of weinig af door het felle zonlicht. Blad is kleiner dan de standaardsoorten.
